Your Funnel is a Conversation

Think of your sales funnel like a helpful chat with a friend.

A good funnel guides someone from curiosity to a clear decision.

When you hear the word 'funnel,' it's easy to picture something complex, maybe even a bit intimidating. But it's actually just a structured path you create for someone to learn about what you offer. Imagine sitting down with a friend who has a problem you can solve. You wouldn't immediately jump to asking for a sale, right? You'd listen, share some helpful ideas, and gently guide them towards a solution. That's exactly what your sales funnel should do.

Start With Understanding

Before you build anything, think about the person you're trying to help. What problem are they trying to solve? What are their hopes and fears around it? Knowing this helps you shape your entire conversation. When someone first encounters you, they're probably just curious. They might not even fully understand their own problem yet, let alone that you have the answer.

Your first step in the funnel, often called a lead magnet, is usually something free and helpful that speaks directly to that initial curiosity or pain point. This could be a short guide, a checklist, or a simple video. It's like offering a helpful tip during that initial chat, building trust and showing you understand their situation.

Guide Them Gently

After they've received your free resource, the next part of your funnel should guide them a little deeper. This often involves an email sequence, sometimes called a nurture sequence. These emails aren't about selling immediately. Instead, they share more valuable insights, address common questions, and perhaps share a small story related to the problem you solve.

Each email should feel like the next logical step in your conversation. You're slowly building their belief that their problem is solvable, and that you might be the right person to help them. You're giving them new perspectives, gently chipping away at their doubts, and helping them connect the dots between their problem and your potential solution.

Introduce Your Solution

Once you've built some trust and educated them a bit, it's time to introduce your main solution, often through something like a webinar. A webinar is essentially a longer, structured presentation where you teach a valuable idea and then present your offer. It's your opportunity to fully explain how your solution works and why it's different.

Think of it as moving from casual chat to a focused discussion. You're showing them your comprehensive plan, explaining how it addresses their specific challenge, and presenting it as a new opportunity rather than just an improvement on old, ineffective methods they might have tried.

Make the Decision Clear

When you present your offer, lay it out clearly. An 'offer stack' is simply detailing everything they get when they join you: your main product, any bonuses that help them succeed, and what each part does for them. Assigning a value to each piece helps them understand the full scope of what they're receiving.

The goal is to make the path forward crystal clear. After your webinar, you'll direct them to a sales page or an order form. This page should reinforce everything you discussed, making it easy for them to take the next step. It's about empowering them to make a confident decision, not pressuring them.

The Conversation Continues

Even after someone has gone through your main sales process, the conversation doesn't necessarily end. For those who didn't buy, an email follow-up sequence can address common objections they might have, share more success stories, or simply offer more value. For those who did buy, welcome emails and onboarding materials are key.

Remember, your funnel isn't a one-and-done transaction. It's a series of interactions designed to build a relationship and guide someone from simply being aware of you to becoming a happy customer. Each step is a natural progression, just like a good conversation.

The short version

  • Design your funnel as a series of natural conversations.
  • Start by understanding your audience's initial curiosities and problems.
  • Use free resources and email sequences to build trust and educate.
  • Present your main solution (like a webinar) as a new opportunity.
  • Clearly outline your offer so people can make an informed decision.
