Your Offer Is an Opportunity, Not a Sale

Think beyond the transaction to what your offer truly provides.

Your offer isn't just a thing you sell; it's a new opportunity for your customer.

When you put together what you're selling, it's easy to focus on the features and benefits. You might list everything someone gets and what it will do for them. But what if you looked at your offer from a slightly different angle? What if, instead of seeing it as something you want to sell, you framed it as a brand new opportunity for your customer? This simple shift can change everything about how you talk about what you do.

Selling a New Opportunity

Often, when people look for a solution, they're not just trying to improve what they already have. They've usually tried a few things, and those things might not have worked out for them. If you come along and say, "I can make your old method 10% better," it might not be very exciting. People want something fresh.

Instead, imagine your offer as a completely new way to solve their problem. It's not an improvement on what failed; it's a different path altogether. This perspective helps you talk about your solution with more confidence and makes it much more appealing to someone who's feeling stuck or frustrated with existing options. It truly is a new opportunity for them.

Understanding Their Current Roadblock

Before you can present a new opportunity, it helps to understand why their current methods aren't working. What's the main belief holding them back? Maybe they believe their problem is too complex, or that only certain 'gurus' can solve it. Or perhaps they think they lack the right skills or resources.

Your job isn't to tell them they're wrong, but to understand their 'wall' – that big thing stopping them. Once you see their roadblock clearly, you can then position your offer as the unique key that unlocks a new, simpler, or more effective way forward. This understanding is foundational to good positioning.

The Epiphany Moment

Think about a time you had a big 'aha!' moment. That's an epiphany. It's usually when you suddenly see a problem or a solution in a completely different light. Your offer should aim to create a similar epiphany for your potential customer.

Your marketing materials – like a webinar, for example – aren't just for sharing information. They are designed to guide your audience to an epiphany, showing them a new truth or perspective that makes your offer not just an option, but the obvious next step. This is how you help them believe in a new path.

Teaching a New Path

When you're showing people this new opportunity, you're also teaching them. You're giving them a new framework, a new way of thinking about their challenge. This teaching builds trust and shows them you understand their journey. It's about breaking down old beliefs and building new, more empowering ones.

For instance, if someone believes they need a huge budget to market their business, you might teach them a new approach that focuses on organic strategies or smart leverage, showing them a new path to visibility without massive spending. This teaching makes your offer more credible and desirable.

Crafting Your 'Big Domino'

In your entire sales message, there should be one central belief that, if your customer accepts it, makes everything else fall into place. We call this the 'Big Domino.' If they believe this one thing, then buying your offer becomes the natural, logical choice for them. Everything you say or do should lead back to this one core idea.

For example, if your offer helps people create online courses, your Big Domino might be: "You already have valuable knowledge worth sharing, and technology makes sharing it simpler than ever before." Once they believe that, the idea of creating a course and using your tools to do it becomes much more attractive.

One Useful Idea: Focus on the Bridge

Here's something you can do today: Identify the single biggest obstacle or belief that's stopping your ideal customer from achieving their desired outcome. Then, ask yourself: How does my offer act as a bridge over that specific obstacle? What new opportunity does it open up that wasn't there before?

Don't just list what your offer does. Describe the 'before' state (with the obstacle) and the 'after' state (crossing the bridge to the new opportunity). For example, if your offer is a time-management system, the obstacle might be 'constant distractions.' The new opportunity is 'focused, productive work periods.' Frame your offer as the essential bridge.

What's the Natural Next Question?

Once you've presented your offer as a new opportunity and explained the core beliefs that support it, the natural next question for your customer often becomes: "How do I actually make this new opportunity happen for me?" This is where your specific solutions and the steps involved come into play.

Thinking about this natural progression helps you build out the rest of your messaging, from your webinar content to your email nurture sequence, making sure you're always addressing their next logical thought and guiding them towards that exciting new future you've painted.

The short version

  • Position your offer as a new opportunity, not just an improvement.
  • Understand the 'wall' or main belief holding your customer back.
  • Aim to create an 'epiphany' moment in your marketing.
  • Teach a new path that builds trust and shifts beliefs.
  • Identify your 'Big Domino' – the core belief that makes your offer inevitable.
